Residential Collection Time
Place your trash cart outside by 7 AM on your collection day in Los Angeles. Place your cart in a way that its lid will face the front of the street. Bring your trash back as soon as possible when your trash gets collected. Keep a distance of 3 feet from all other containers while placing your cart at the curbside.
If you place the wrong material into your residential trash cart or your cart is hidden behind static objects such as poles or mailboxes, your cart will not be serviced. So, place your trash cart in an open place in front of your property.
Recycling Collection Rules
Acceptable recycling material includes clean paper (newspapers, envelopes, magazines, cartons, phone books, flyers, etc.), cardboard & corrugated boxes, glass bottles and jars, aluminum cans, tin and metal food cans, plastics marked 1, 2, or 5, jugs, bottles, tubs, containers, aluminum foil, and trays.
Place all recyclable material into a blue trash cart. Put only empty, clean, and dry material into the recycling cart. If you place the right items into the recycling cart, it will reduce trash from the city of Los Angeles. Do not put any irrelevant items into the recycling cart; otherwise, your recycling trash will not be serviced.
Bulk Trash Collection in Los Angeles
LASAN will provide bulk pickup services without any charges to the residents of Los Angeles. Bulk trash includes those useless materials that could not fit into residential trash bins, such as beds, couches, fridges, and other home appliances.
If you are having these types of materials or you have seen these types of material in the street, report it immediately and LASAN will schedule a pickup tour to collect all these items. Do not place any irrelevant material along your bulk trash, such as automotive parts, construction materials, commercial waste, and cardboard. If you place these items, your trash pile will not be serviced.

Drop Off Household Hazardous Waste/E-Waste
LASAN will also facilitate people to dispose of household hazardous material at the city drop-off station. Household hazardous materials include useless dangerous material such as medicines, chemicals, paints, motor oil, propane tanks, and needles. It also includes some sort of E-waste such as computers, TVs, and microwave ovens. You can drop off your HHW and E-waste at S.A.F.E. (Solvents/Automotive/Flammables/Electronics) Collection Centers.
This is a permanent HHW collection site that provides facilities to its residents to drop off their HHW material weekly. Acceptable HHW material includes aerosol cans, asbestos, rechargeable batteries, compressed gas cylinders, electronic waste such as TVs, computers, monitors, printers, cell phones, cables/wiring, home-generated sharps and medications, household cleaning products, used motor oil, oil filters, antifreeze, and other automotive fluids.
Put all your HHW trash into cardboard or plastic bins to bring it to the drop-off station. If you are using a plastic bin, add support to its bottom to prevent leakage of products in case of any damage. Your plastic bins will be returned to you. Pack all material into their original containers or label it properly so that drop-off station staff can easily identify the material in its container.
When you bring HHW into the drop-off station, try to keep it away from passengers. Once you arrive at the drop-off station, they will conduct a short oral survey from you. They will ask some basic questions that you will have to answer. Moreover, you are not allowed to unload your HHW material; instead, to ensure your safety, you will be asked to remain in your vehicle all the time during the unloading of trash. The weight limit of HHW is 15 gallons or 125 pounds per vehicle during one visit.
Electronic Waste Drop-Off Guide
Acceptable drop-off material includes TVs and accessories (cable boxes, cables/power cords, DVD/VCR players, DVR recorders), computers (3D printers, circuit boards, computers, copiers, CPUs/processors, desktop computers, expansion cards), office items (calculators, electric typewriters, electronic hubs, routers), phones, kitchen items (air fryers, blenders, can openers, coffee bean grinders, coffee makers, electric kettles, espresso machines), bathroom items (hair dryers, hair curling irons, electric toothbrushes), household items, and garage items (electric motors, electric lawn mowers, trimmers).
Do not bring any irrelevant E-waste to the drop-off station. It is recommended to remove all personal information from devices. If you are having large electronic items, then call at 311; they will provide you with curbside pickup services. Pack all material properly before sending it to the drop-off station.
Sharps Drop-Off Guide
LASAN will also provide an opportunity for its citizens to safely and legally dispose of all sharp objects such as syringes, auto injectors, lancets, and prefilled pens. Place all these sharp materials into a puncture-proof box and then bring it to the drop-off station. Moreover, the container should be leak-resistant and properly labeled as sharps.
