Find Your Collection Day

Garbage Collections

Place your cart at the curb no earlier than noon on the day before your garbage collection. Put your trash in a bag, then place that bag into your garbage cart to reduce litter and spillage. Use only city-issued black and gray carts for your garbage. Do not place trash outside the cart, as this will result in missed collection if your trash is outside the cart.

Position your cart with its lid facing the street. Leave a distance of several feet on both sides of your cart to ensure it can be easily collected by automatic trash collection trucks. Do not overfill your cart. Only place a closed-lidded cart at the curb; if trash is spilling out, it will not be collected. Roll your cart back as soon as it has been collected.

Recycling Collections

Recycling services are provided once a week, so place your recycling cart at the curb by 7 AM on your designated collection day. Put only clean, empty, and dry items into your recycling cart. Do not place plastic bags in your cart, as these bags can cause problems in the recycling process.

Acceptable recycling materials include plastic bottles and containers, glass bottles and jars, metal cans, aluminum cans, food boxes, paper, and flattened cardboard. Do not place any non-recyclable materials in your recycling cart, as this will result in your recycling not being collected.

Missed Collections

Sometimes residents may experience missed trash collections. If this happens, please remain calm and report the issue. To report a missed collection, contact the Public Works Department at (216) 664-3711. Once you report the issue, your trash will be collected on the next business day.

Bulk Items Collections

Residents are allowed to place bulk trash out for collection during the first week of each month on the same day as their regular garbage collection. To ensure your bulk trash is collected, place no more than three items out by 7 AM on your garbage collection day. Position your bulk trash in front of your property; do not place it on your personal property, as the collection crew will not enter private property.

Acceptable bulk trash includes tables and chairs, mattresses and box springs, couches, and household furniture. All mattresses, box springs, and leather and cloth furniture must be wrapped in plastic. Do not add construction materials such as toilets, tubs, and sinks to bulk trash piles.

If the collection crew finds any prohibited materials in your bulk trash pile, they will leave your trash uncollected, resulting in missed bulk item collection. Additionally, residents are allowed to place up to four tires curbside with their bulk trash. However, before placing tires out, residents must inform the Public Works Department at (216) 664-3711.

Yard Waste Collections

Yard waste will be collected once a week on the same day as your bulk and garbage collections. To ensure collection, place your yard waste at the curb by 7 AM. Yard waste includes grass clippings, leaves, and branches. Residents are allowed to place up to 20 bags of yard waste per week.

Prepare your yard waste properly before placing it at the curb. Place all leaves in compostable bags, and cut all branches into lengths of 6 feet. Tie these branches into bundles and place them at the curb for collection. Do not block sidewalks while placing your yard trash at curbside.

Household Hazardous Waste Collections

Household hazardous waste includes all those materials that could cause damage if not properly stored, such as paint, household chemicals, and pool chemicals. If you have this type of trash, you can bring it to 5600 Carnegie (Carr Center) or 3727 Ridge Road from Monday to Friday between 9 AM and 3 PM, on the first Friday of every month.
