Garbage Collections

Your regular garbage cart will be serviced every week according to the Akron trash schedule. Place your cart curbside by 6 AM on your collection day. Ensure that your garbage cart is placed in front of your property at the edge of the street, without blocking sidewalks. Put all garbage into plastic bags before placing them in your trash cart to reduce litter.

Position your cart so that the lid faces the street, and ensure it has handles for easy collection by the automatic trash truck. The cart should be placed in an obstacle-free location, with at least 3 feet of clearance on both sides. Only use closed-lid carts, and do not overfill them. If you place extra trash outside your cart, it will not be serviced, and you may be fined. To maintain cleanliness, wash your trash cart after every collection and remove it as soon as possible after pickup.

Recycling Collections

Your recycling cart will be collected on the same day as your regular garbage, following the Akron trash schedule. Place your recyclable materials in a city-issued recycling cart and put the cart curbside by 6 AM on the scheduled day. Leave a 3-foot distance between your garbage and recycling carts when placing them curbside.

Do not place plastic bags in your recycling cart, as they are not recyclable and cause problems in the recycling process. Only closed-lid recycling carts should be used, and make sure to place only clean, empty, and dry items in the cart to reduce litter and spillage.

Acceptable recycling materials include paper, newspapers, mail, books, flattened cardboard, food boxes, plastic bottles, plastic containers, glass bottles, glass jars, metal cans, aluminum cans, and tin food boxes. Any irrelevant material placed in the recycling cart will result in non-service. Remove your recycling cart by 6 PM on the same day of collection, in accordance with the Akron trash schedule.

Bulk Trash Collections

The city also offers oversized trash pickup services for items that do not fit in regular trash carts. To schedule a bulk trash collection, call 311 or 330-375-2311 at least one day before your regular collection day. Bulk trash includes items such as broken furniture (beds, sofas, chairs, tables), mattresses, and home appliances.

Once your special bulk collection service is confirmed, place all bulk trash curbside by 4:30 AM on the scheduled day. Do not place bulk trash on your personal property, as collection crews are not allowed to enter private property.
