Elk Grove Trash Schedule

Garbage carts are collected once a week. Place your cart at the curbside by 6 AM on your collection day. Collection occurs between 6 AM and 7 PM, so ensure timely placement, as late carts will not be collected. To reduce litter and spillage, put all garbage into plastic bags before placing them in the cart. Use only closed-lid carts at the curbside, and do not overfill them. If the cart lid is not closed and trash is spilling out, it will not be serviced.

When placing your cart at the curbside, leave a 3-foot distance on both sides of the cart. Do not place it near obstacles such as poles, wires, mailboxes, or parked cars. Avoid blocking sidewalks. Position the cart with the lid facing the street. Ensure your cart has handles for easy collection by the automatic trash collection truck. Do not place extra trash next to your cart, as it will not be serviced. Remove your cart as soon as possible after collection.

Report Problems

If you encounter issues such as missed collection or damaged carts, you can report these problems to the sanitation department by calling 847-734-6400.

Elk Grove Recycling Collections

Recycling is collected on the same day as regular garbage collection. Place your recycling cart at the curbside by 6 AM on your scheduled collection day. Be careful to place only recyclable materials in the cart, as carts with irrelevant materials will not be collected.

To keep your cart clean and free of maggots, put only clean, empty, and dry items in the recycling cart, and use only closed-lid carts. Do not place plastic bags in the recycling cart, as they cause issues in the recycling process. Styrofoam is also prohibited.

Acceptable recycling materials include plastic bottles and containers labeled with numbers 1 through 5 & 7, aluminum cans, aluminum foil, aluminum baking trays, steel or tin cans, empty aerosol cans, glass bottles and jars, office paper, newspapers, magazines, catalogs, corrugated cardboard, flattened paperboard/chipboard (cereal, pasta, soda, or clothing boxes), telephone directories, brown paper bags, aseptic containers, and juice and milk cartons.

Elk Grove Bulk Trash Schedule

Bulk trash includes items too large to fit in a regular trash cart. If you have bulk trash to dispose of, you must schedule a special bulk pickup. Call Groot at (847) 734-6400 to schedule a bulk trash collection. Only one bulk item is allowed per week, and the weight limit for bulk trash is 50 pounds. Place all bulk trash at the curbside in front of your property, ensuring sidewalks are not blocked.

Bulk trash includes carpeting (up to 10 rolls, with each roll not exceeding 4 feet in length and 2 feet in diameter), small appliances, large toys, bedding (mattresses, box springs, frames), vacuum cleaners, bicycles, furniture (sofas, loveseats, chairs, bookcases, shelving units, desks, lawn chairs), kitchen cabinets (disassembled), toilets (with the tank separated from the seat), sinks, vanities, old garbage cans, and barbecue grills. Only these items are accepted in the bulk pile; otherwise, the trash will not be serviced.

Elk Grove Yard Trash Schedule

Yard trash is collected on the same day as regular garbage collection. Place all yard waste in bags or yard carts and set them at the curbside by 6 AM on your collection day. Yard trash includes leaves, brush, grass clippings, garden waste, and tree or brush trimmings. There are specific rules to follow when preparing yard trash for collection.

If your yard trash contains leaves, place them in compostable bags before placing them at the curbside. If your yard trash includes branches and limbs, cut them into 3-foot lengths, tie them into bundles, and place them at the curb. It is the resident’s responsibility to clean up any leftover trash once the yard waste is collected under the Elk Grove Trash Schedule.
