Can You Recycle CDs & DVDs?
No
Not curbside — mail-in e-media recyclers exist
Why
Discs are polycarbonate (#7) with a metal layer — too specialized for curbside sorting. Dedicated media recyclers accept them by mail.
How to dispose of cds & dvds
- Donate playable discs to thrift stores or libraries
- Mail dead discs (and cases) to an e-media recycler
- Otherwise trash them; cases are too brittle for curbside too
Greener option
Used media stores still buy CDs, DVDs, and games in good condition.
♻️ Recycling rules vary by city and hauler — when in doubt, check your local program. You can look up your area on our trash & recycling schedules page.
