Can You Recycle Cooking Oil & Grease?
No
Never the drain, never the bin — collect and drop off
Why
Grease clogs pipes and sewers, and liquid oil ruins recycling loads. Many areas collect used cooking oil for biodiesel.
How to dispose of cooking oil & grease
- Cool the oil and pour it into a sealable container
- Find a cooking-oil drop-off — many fire stations and county sites collect it, especially around holidays
- Small amounts: solidify with the fridge or absorb with paper, then trash
- Never pour oil down any drain
Greener option
Strained frying oil can be reused several times before disposal.
♻️ Recycling rules vary by city and hauler — when in doubt, check your local program. You can look up your area on our trash & recycling schedules page.
