Garbage Collections
Your regular trash cart will be collected once a week according to the City of Norman trash schedule. Place your cart curbside by 7 AM on your collection day. Trash will be collected between 7 AM and 5 PM, so make sure your cart is set out on time. Remove your cart as soon as possible after collection to avoid fines.
Follow these guidelines when placing your cart at the curbside: Position the cart so the lid opens toward the street, and ensure it has handles for easy pickup by the automatic trash truck. Only place closed-lid carts at the curb, and do not overfill them. If trash spills out of the cart, it will not be collected. Place your cart in an obstacle-free area, avoiding parked cars, wires, poles, and mailboxes. To reduce litter, place all trash in plastic bags before putting them in the trash cart. Extra trash bags placed outside the cart will not be serviced according to the City of Norman trash schedule.
Recycling Collections
Recyclable materials will be collected on the same day as your residential trash collection according to the City of Norman trash schedule. Place all recyclable materials in a green recycling cart by 6 AM on your collection day. Acceptable recycling materials include paper, newspapers, mixed paper, metal cans, tin, glass bottles, plastic bottles, plastic jars, containers, and flattened cardboard.
Do not add shredded paper or plastic bags to the recycling cart, as these items are not recyclable. Plastic bags disrupt the recycling process and should not be placed in the cart. Place only clean, dry, and empty materials in the recycling cart. If your recyclables do not fit into the cart, place them in biodegradable bags labeled “recyclable” and put them next to the cart.
Bulk Trash Collections
Bulk trash will be collected twice a month on Saturdays as part of the City of Norman trash schedule. If you have bulk trash, such as broken furniture, mattresses, or home appliances, you must schedule a bulk trash pickup. To schedule a pickup, call (405) 329-1023. They will provide you with a collection date, and you can prepare your bulk trash for pickup.
Place your bulk trash in front of your property at the curb without blocking sidewalks. Only place acceptable bulk trash at the curb. Irrelevant materials mixed with bulk trash will not be collected. Ensure that the bulk trash is placed in an obstacle-free area so that it can be collected easily. It is the resident’s responsibility to clean up any remaining trash after bulk collection.
Yard Trash Collections
Yard trash will be collected on the same day as your regular garbage collections according to the City of Norman trash schedule. Acceptable yard trash includes tree leaves, grass clippings, shrubs, branches, and limbs. Place leaves in bags weighing no more than 50 pounds before placing them at the curb. If your yard trash includes branches, cut them into lengths of four feet, tie them into bundles, and place the bundles curbside for collection.
Holidays Collection Schedule
Certain holidays will affect your normal trash collection day, causing services to be delayed by one day. If your scheduled collection day falls on a holiday, such as a Monday, your trash will be collected on Tuesday. Tuesday’s collection will be delayed to Wednesday, and so on.
