Coquitlam is a city located in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia, Canada. Waste Connections of Canada and GFL Environmental are responsible for trash collection services in Coquitlam. The city is divided into two distinct zones that determine your trash collection time on your trash collection day. Residents must first confirm their trash collection day and zone to ensure proper trash services.

Garbage Collections
Waste Connections of Canada is responsible for regular garbage collection in Coquitlam. They will service your regular garbage cart and green cart on a weekly basis. Residents must identify their collection zone before placing their carts at the curbside. If you’re in the AM collection zone, place your cart at the curb between 5:30 AM and 7:30 AM. If you’re in the PM zone, place your cart between 5:30 AM and 11:00 AM. To identify your zone, click the link below.
Make sure to put all trash into plastic bags before placing it at the curbside. Place only closed-lid carts at the curb, as carts with overflowing trash will not be serviced. Position your cart so that the lid faces the street, and leave a distance of 1.5 meters from other objects such as parked cars. Place your cart in an obstacle-free space away from static obstacles like poles, mailboxes, and parked vehicles. After your cart is collected, roll it back as soon as possible to maintain cleanliness in line with the Coquitlam Garbage Schedule.
Recycling Collections
The city of Coquitlam does not provide recycling services directly. GFL Environmental offers essential recycling services to residents. Recycling carts will be serviced on the same day as your regular garbage collections. If you are in the AM collection zone, place your recycling cart at the curbside between 5:30 AM and 7:00 AM. If you’re in the PM zone, place it between 5:30 AM and 10:00 AM.
Place only empty, clean, and dry items in your recycling cart. Acceptable materials include mixed paper, newspaper, flattened cardboard, approved plastics, metal, and glass containers. Do not place contaminants in your recycling cart, as the collection crew will leave your cart if irrelevant materials are found, leading to missed collections. Once your recycling cart is serviced, roll it back promptly as part of the Coquitlam Garbage Schedule guidelines.
Bulk Trash Collections
Bulk trash includes items that cannot fit into a regular trash cart, such as broken furniture, beds, chairs, cupboards, sofas, mattresses, and home appliances. Typically, residents receive curbside bulk trash pickup from June 1 to July 30. However, if you have bulk trash and your bulk collection date is far off, you can schedule a special pickup.
To schedule bulk trash collection, contact the email provided below. You will need to send a description of the items you wish to dispose of, along with personal details such as your home address, name, and phone number. Once your pickup is scheduled, prepare your bulk trash properly to ensure collection. Residents are allowed to place only four bulk trash items on each collection day.
Yard / Green Waste Collections
Your yard and green waste cart will be serviced on the same day as your regular garbage collections under the Coquitlam Garbage Schedule. Acceptable yard trash includes tree leaves, grass clippings, shrubs, branches, and limbs. Place all leaves in bags before placing them at the curbside. Each bag must not exceed 50 pounds in weight. If your yard waste includes tree branches, cut them into lengths of four feet, tie the branches into bundles, and place the bundles at the curbside for collection.
Holidays Collection Schedule
Certain holidays will affect your normal trash collection services. When residents observe these holidays, their normal trash collection day will shift forward by one day. For example, if a holiday falls on Monday, Monday’s trash will be collected on Tuesday, and Tuesday’s trash will be collected on Wednesday. This delay continues throughout the week until Friday, so follow the schedule below to ensure timely trash collection during holidays under the Coquitlam Garbage Schedule.
