Garbage Collections
According to Dayton’s laws, garbage carts will be collected once a week from Monday to Thursday. To ensure your garbage collection, place your cart at the curbside by 6:30 AM on your scheduled collection day. Similarly, once your carts have been collected, bring your trash containers back by 8 PM on the same day.
Follow all sanitation rules when placing your carts at the curbside. If you violate the rules, your cart may not be collected. For example, leave a distance of 5 feet around your cart, and ensure it is placed in an obstacle-free area so the automatic trash collection trucks can easily collect it.
Position your cart so that its lid opens toward the street, and the handles face your house. Do not overfill your cart. Only place a closed-lid cart at the curbside. If trash is spilling out of the cart, it will not be collected. To reduce litter, wrap your garbage before placing it in the cart.
Recycling Collections
Recycling carts will be collected once every two weeks. To ensure recycling collection, place your recycling cart at the curbside by 6:30 AM on your scheduled recycling collection day. Residents must be aware of recycling rules and follow them carefully. Only empty, clean, and dry items should be placed in recycling carts.
Do not put any non-recyclable materials or contaminants in your recycling cart, as it will not be collected. If the collection truck finds contaminants in your cart, it will leave the cart, leading to missed trash collection. After three violations, your recycling service may be suspended.
Acceptable recycling materials include glass bottles and jars (all colors), metal cans (aluminum cans, steel cans, and lids), empty aerosol cans (with the lids and tips removed), plastic bottles (empty and crushed with caps/lids reattached), paper, food and beverage cartons (such as milk, juice, soup, and wine), and flattened cardboard.
Bulk Items Collections
Residents must schedule bulk item pickup in advance by calling 937-333-4800. Schedule your pickup at least one day before your regular garbage collection day. Prepare all bulk trash and place it at the curbside by 6:30 AM on your collection day. Follow specific rules when placing bulk trash at the curbside, such as separating bulk items and metal items.
Bulk trash includes broken furniture, mattresses, and home appliances. Pile your bulk trash in front of your property. Do not place bulk trash in your alley, as the collection crew is not allowed to enter personal property to collect bulk trash. Ensure all bulk trash is placed in obstacle-free areas, and avoid blocking sidewalks when placing your trash.
