Garbage Collections
Your normal residential cart will be serviced once a week. On your garbage collection day, place your cart at the curbside by 7 AM on your scheduled collection day. Be punctual when placing your cart at the curbside; if you place your cart later than 7 AM, it will not be collected. The trash truck will collect your cart between 7 AM and 7 PM.
Do not place your garbage on the ground; instead, put it into the garbage cart. Only closed-lid garbage carts will be collected. If your garbage overflows from the cart, it will not be collected. In case of rule violations, you will be charged a fine of $50 per day.
While placing your cart at the curb, keep certain rules in mind, such as leaving a distance of 3 feet from all other carts and obstacles like poles, mailboxes, and parked cars. Roll your trash cart back as soon as possible after your trash is collected.
Recycling Collections
Recycling carts will be collected once every two weeks on the same day as your normal garbage collection day. To ensure your recycling collection, place your cart at the curbside by 7 AM on your designated day. Use a recycling cart to place all recyclable items. Put all recyclable materials loosely into the cart; do not bag them. Do not place any plastic bags into recycling carts, as they will not be collected if you do.
According to the rules and regulations of East Providence, acceptable recycling materials include paper, flattened cardboard, cartons, metal cans and lids, aluminum cans and foil, glass bottles and glass jars, and plastic bottles and containers with numbers 1 to 7. Do not add any contaminants or irrelevant materials into the recycling cart, or your cart will not be serviced.
Bulk Collection/Pickup by Appointment
The city provides curbside bulk items collection to its residents. The sanitation department offers these services by appointment only. Residents must schedule an appointment for bulk collection by calling Waste Management at 401-435-7701. Prepare your bulk trash properly before placing it at the curbside on your designated day.
Bulk trash includes home appliances such as washers, dryers, refrigerators, stoves, hot water tanks, air conditioners, and gas grills, as well as broken furniture like beds, chairs, tables, couches, mattresses, and box springs. If these items are in good condition, residents are encouraged to donate them to a local organization or Furniture Bank RI by calling 401-831-5511.
