Trash Collection and Recycling Fee in Hillsborough County

The government doesn’t charge for trash collection, recycling, and yard waste collection separately but they add fees into your tax bills.

Hillsborough is the city offering the lowest trash collection and recycling fee from customers compared to other states.

There are some points you must know about holidays:

  • The holiday collection schedule is suspended only for that specific holiday as mentioned earlier.

What About Trash That Consists of Decoration Pieces and Ornaments?

Trash which consists of decoration pieces such as Christmas trees will be picked up according to the following rules:

  • Detach all electronic items such as lights from decoration pieces.
  • Cut the tree into sections no longer than 4 feet and diameter not more than 6 inches.
  • Place trash on a regular collection day.
  • Drop off live trees at these processing facilities, where they will handle these trees properly and ensure they are processed correctly.

Having More Trash?

Trash that will not fit in a gray cart may be disposed of at any of the county community collection centers along with a copy of the county tax bill. For food wastage, a fee will be charged.

Food and Beverage Containers

Recyclable food and beverage containers should be emptied before dropping them in the blue cart, which include:

  • Disposable bottles and plastic containers
  • Steel cans and tins
  • Glass bottles and jars
  • Milk and juice boxes and cartons

Large volumes of recyclables that will not fit in the cart may be recycled at any of the county community collection centers for no extra charges.

Plastic Bags and Wraps

Do not put plastic bags in regular recycling bins. Instead, you can throw them in special recycling bins located outside of superstores.

Remember, if your plastic bags are not clean, are dirty, or damaged, then prefer to throw them into the trash because they are no longer recyclable.

Where to Place Bulk Trash in Hillsborough County

If you have bulk trash and you need to get rid of all bulky stuff, then you can request a special trash pickup. This will charge a fee according to the size and number of trash, which is most probably ranging from $30 to $50.
