Long Beach Trash Schedule

Find Your Collection Day

In order to find your trash pick-up day, you have to use the MapIt application, where you simply enter your proper address in a blue box located on the top right corner. In this way, you can track your trash collection schedule along with a number of city services such as police and fire.

Trash Carts

If you want trash carts to place trash outside, you can submit a request to get a cart online. The available sizes of carts are 100-gallon (3 regular trash cans) and 64-gallon (2 regular trash cans) for the citizens of Long Beach.

Cart Placement and Care

Place your trash carts outside by 6:00 am on your trash collection day. Similarly, you also have to bring your trash carts back within 12 hours after the trash gets picked up. Place your trash in a way that there should be a distance of 2 feet between recycling carts and trash carts.

Moreover, place all garbage inside the bins properly because the automated trash collection system could not collect the trash, boxes, or bags that are lying outside of the trash cart.

Place your closed-lid trash carts outside in a way that their lid will open towards the street. Do not cross the cart’s trash fill-up limit, which is 200 pounds for a 100-gallon cart, and 150 pounds for a 64-gallon cart. Only regular household trash will be accepted by trash collection staff and you have to put all household trash into a gray bin.

Report a Problem Related to Trash Collection

If you are facing some problems related to your trash pick-up you can report it, simply add your name, address, and trash collection day along with some other necessary information and in the complaint box, explain your problem and submit the form. The Waste Management authority of Long Beach will contact you to solve your problem.

Recycling Services

The Long Beach Waste Management Department will provide recycling facilities along with typical trash pickup services. They provide 96-gallon purple carts to customers so that they can put all recycling material in it separately.

Recycling is the best alternative for landfill and contributes much to reduce trash and utilize it in a meaningful way as well. You need to be very careful while putting recyclable trash into recycling bins. Because if you put non-recyclable things such as plastic bags into purple carts it would create problems for recycling staff.

Furthermore, check properly that the material you are putting into recycling trash must be clean, empty, and dry. And do not put bulk trash or hazardous waste material into recycling bins because these items are not acceptable for recycling. Place only close-lid recycling trash carts outside to prevent litter.

Acceptable materials for recycling by the city trash management authority include plastic bottles, jugs, tabs, paper and cardboard, metal cans and aluminum, glass bottles, and jars only and do not put any irrelevant material into recycling carts. You can use an online form to report any problem related to recycling services.

Request for Special Collection

City accounts services will provide up to 12 special pickups of bulk trash, free of cost. Regular fees will be charged only when your bulk trash needs special handling. In order to book special trash pick-up services, fill out the online form.

Do not place your bulk trash on the footpath or alley until the waste management authority confirms your special trash collection day, and place your bulk trash outside a night before your pickup day. There are some rules that you have to follow to prepare your trash before placing it at curbside for collection.

Preparing Items for Special Collection

The size of bulk items should be 72×48, bind smaller items together and the weight of the bundle should not be more than 40 pounds. Similarly, the weight limit for trash bags is 25 pounds. In order to ensure the safety of bags, do not put any sharp objects into bags. Tie all bags tightly to prevent litter.

In case of having oversized trash such as a sofa or any other thing, simply let us know when you arrange the pickup. If you are having oversized items (home appliance, TV, computer, monitor) that could need special handling, the government will charge a fine for these pickups.

Only 8 large items and 25 bags of trash are allowed on a single bulk pickup, and only two free special pickups are allowed in one day. If you want to dispose of material such as mattresses, then firstly seal them into plastic bags before placing them outside for pickup.

Place all bulk material outside for special pickup, at the same location where you place normal trash. Place all bulk items outside on time by 6:00 am on designated days. You have to follow all these rules to place your trash outside, because due to insurance liabilities trash collectors cannot enter into your private property to pick your trash.
