Trash Collection Guidelines
According to the laws of Nashua, place your trash cart at the curbside by 5 AM on the designated day and at the designated place. Regular garbage will be collected once a week from Monday to Friday. Additionally, residents are required to place all regular trash into city-issued trash carts. If you are using any other cart, it is necessary to label it as a garbage cart so that the collection crew can easily recognize it. Place your trash cart so that its lid opens toward the front of the street.
Place only closed-lid carts at the curbside to reduce litter on the street. Loose trash material can get stuck in the cart walls, causing problems during collection. To prevent this inconvenience, place all your trash in a bag before putting it into your trash cart. To ensure collection on scheduled days, residents must place their carts in visible, obstacle-free areas. Finally, at the end of the day, roll your cart back as soon as possible after it has been collected.
Nashua Recycling Collections
Recycling services are provided according to a set recycling collection schedule for the residents of Nashua. Place your recycling bin at the curbside by 7 AM on your scheduled collection day. Position the recycling bin in front of your property at the edge of the street. Residents are allowed to place only dry, clean, and empty materials into their recycling bins to reduce litter and spillages. Place only loose items in your bin, and do not place any plastic bags in it, as they slow down the recycling process.
Acceptable recycling materials include paper and cardboard (e.g., pasteboard such as cereal boxes, brown paper bags, pizza boxes, corrugated cardboard, newspaper, magazines, office paper), plastic containers #1-7 (e.g., water bottles, milk jugs, berry containers), aluminum, steel and tin cans (e.g., beer and soda cans, soup cans), and glass containers. Place only these approved materials in your recycling cart, as any non-recyclable items will lead to non-collection by the crew.
Bulk Items Collection
Bulk trash includes oversized items that cannot fit into your normal trash cart, such as home appliances, electronics, broken furniture, and mattresses. Residents of Nashua are not provided with curbside bulk trash collection services. If you have such items and wish to dispose of them, bring them to the landfill station located at 3354 330th Street, Elma, Iowa 50628 (641) 982-4288. This landfill station provides waste disposal services to Nashua residents at no cost.
Yard Waste Collections
Residents of Nashua are not provided with curbside yard waste collection services. Yard waste includes materials such as tree branches, leaves, grass clippings, and other lawn products. If you have these types of materials and want to dispose of them, bring them to the brush site located at the south end of Main Street, along the drive east of the Ford Street intersection. This brush site is open from 7 AM to 7 PM and accepts yard waste from Nashua residents only.
Holidays Trash Schedule
Certain holidays will affect the normal trash collection schedule for Nashua residents. Trash collection services will be delayed by one day when these holidays occur. For example, if your normal collection day is Monday and a holiday falls on Monday, your trash will be collected on Tuesday. Tuesday’s collection will also be delayed by one day, moving to Wednesday, and so on. This delay continues throughout the week, with Friday’s trash being collected on Saturday for that week only.
