Garbage Collections
Place your containers outside by 8 AM on your collection day, and bring your container back by 8 PM on the same day. Leave a distance of 4 feet between your residential trash and recycling containers. Place your carts so the lid faces the street. Only place closed-lid containers outside.
Do not overfill your carts. If you place irrelevant materials, such as dirt, rocks, concrete, or vehicle parts, into your residential cart, it will not be serviced. Clean your carts regularly after collection to prevent spillage and reduce odors. Place your carts in a way that does not block sidewalks, and avoid hiding them behind large objects such as parked vehicles, mailboxes, or poles.
Recycling Collections
Recycling and a circular economy help protect the environment and contribute to a better future. They also minimize the use of natural resources that take hundreds of years to form. The City of Omaha provides recycling facilities for its residents. It’s essential to know the do’s and don’ts of recycling services that the sanitation department provides.
Materials that are acceptable for recycling include plastics marked Number 1 and Number 2, cans, mixed paper, cardboard, glass bottles, glass jars, and glass containers. Place these bundles at the curbside by 8 AM on your scheduled collection day.
Omaha Trash Holidays Schedule
Omaha observes six annual holidays that will affect your trash collection schedule. Your normal trash collection services will be delayed by one day if you observe these holidays. For example, if residents observe these holidays on a Monday, your Monday trash will be collected on Tuesday. Similarly, Tuesday’s collection will also be delayed by one day. This delay will continue for the entire week.
