Garbage Collection Time and Rules

Use only city-approved carts to dispose of garbage. If you are using carts that are not approved by the city, your cart will not be serviced. If you do not have a city-approved cart, order one online. Place your garbage cart at the curbside by 7 AM on your collection day.

Place garbage and recycling carts separately, and do not put any contaminants or liquid material into the garbage cart to reduce litter. Place your cart in a location that is accessible for trash collection trucks. Do not block sidewalks when placing your carts at the curbside. To reduce litter, put your garbage into plastic bags and then place it into the trash cart.

Once your trash is collected, roll back your cart as soon as possible. It is the residents’ responsibility to keep their carts clean, so try to wash the garbage cart after every collection. Do not leave your cart with an open lid. If you do, your cart will not be serviced.

Recycling Collection Time and Rules

Recycling carts will be serviced every other week. To ensure your recycling is picked up, place your cart at the curbside by 7 AM on your recycling collection scheduled day. Residents need to be very careful when placing trash into recycling carts because if your cart contains any non-recyclable material, it will not be serviced.

Acceptable recycling materials include aluminum and steel containers and cans, clean foil and trays, cardboard, cereal boxes, food boxes, paper rolls, glass bottles and jars, paper, plastic bottles and containers, and any plastic material numbered from #1 to #7.

Place only empty, clean, and dry materials into recycling carts. Do not add any contaminants or plastic bags into the recycling cart because these materials are not recyclable and may slow down the recycling process by causing problems at the recycling plant.

Bulk Garbage Collection

Bulk collection service will be provided on a weekly basis along with your residential trash collection. The bulk collection limit is 1 cubic yard per week. Your bulk pile must not exceed 5 feet in length and 75 pounds in weight. If you have a large amount of bulk, the Public Works Department will pick up your trash and charge a fee for that service. Almost one to eight cubic yards of bulk trash will be collected for a fee.

Acceptable bulk materials include broken furniture that you cannot donate, mattresses, large home appliances, Styrofoam, and electronics that cannot go into recycling carts. Place all materials in front of your property, and do not place bulk trash over water and gas lines.
