Garbage Collections

According to the rules of the Public Waste Department in NRH, your trash carts will be serviced twice a week, collecting all the trash placed at the curbside. To ensure your garbage is collected, place your garbage cart at the curbside by 7 AM on your scheduled collection day. Ensure that your garbage cart is placed in front of your property at the edge of the street, in an obstacle-free area. Keep the cart away from static obstacles such as poles, mailboxes, and parked cars to ensure easy collection.

There are specific rules provided by the Public Waste Department that residents must follow when placing carts at the curbside. For example, do not block sidewalks and maintain a clearance of 4 feet on all sides of your cart. Only carts with handles should be placed at the curb so they can be picked up easily. Ensure the lid of your cart opens toward the street. It is recommended to use a closed-lid cart because if trash is spilling out, it may result in a missed collection.

Residents must place garbage, recycling, bulk, yard, and construction trash separately, as each will be collected according to the schedule provided by the Public Works Department. If your regular garbage cart contains construction debris, tires, or unacceptable materials, the collection truck will leave the cart, and the homeowner will be notified to comply. Once your trash is collected, roll your cart back as soon as possible.

Recycling Collections

According to the rules of North Richland Hills, place your recycling cart at the curbside by 7 AM on your scheduled collection day. The cart will be collected between 7 AM and 5:30 PM on your scheduled day. Certain recycling rules must be followed. For example, do not put plastic bags in the recycling cart, as they are not recyclable and cause problems in the recycling process. Only place empty, clean, and dry items in the recycling cart to reduce spillage.

Acceptable recycling materials include plastic jugs, bottles, and tubs; glass jars and bottles; paper, newspapers, magazines, and flattened cardboard; wax-coated paper containers and juice boxes; metal and aluminum cans; clean aluminum foil wrap and pans; and aerosol cans. Only flattened cardboard should be placed in the recycling cart, and large items should be avoided. Cut large recycling materials before placing them in the cart.

Yard Waste Collections

Your yard trash will be picked up on the same day as your garbage collection day. Acceptable yard trash includes tree leaves, grass clippings, shrubs, branches, and limbs. Bag all leaves before placing them at the curb, and ensure the bag’s weight does not exceed 50 pounds. If your yard trash includes tree branches, cut them into lengths of four feet, tie the branches into bundles, and place the bundles at the curb for collection.

Bulk Trash Collections

The Public Works Department also provides curbside bulk trash collection once a week. Residents are allowed to place only four bulk items at the curbside on their bulk trash collection day. Place your bulk pile at the curb by 6 AM on your scheduled day to ensure collection. Acceptable bulk trash includes home appliances such as freezers, refrigerators, water coolers, dehumidifiers, air conditioners, and furniture items like beds, chairs, tables, couches, and mattresses.

North Richland Hills Trash Holidays Schedule

Certain holidays may delay your normal trash collection day by one day. If residents observe a holiday on their scheduled collection day, trash collection will shift to the next day. For example, if a holiday falls on a Monday, Monday’s trash will be collected on Tuesday, and Tuesday’s trash will be collected on Wednesday. This schedule shift will continue for the entire week.
