Garbage Collections

Garbage collection services are provided twice a week to residents of the Town of Clarkstown. Residents should place their regular garbage cart at the curbside by 6 AM on their scheduled collection day. To reduce litter and spillage, it is recommended to put all garbage into plastic bags before placing these bags in the garbage cart. Place only closed-lid carts at the curbside. Do not overfill your cart, as carts with open lids or trash coming out will not be serviced.

When placing your cart at the curbside, leave a distance of 3 feet on both sides of the cart. Do not place your cart near obstacles such as poles, wires, mailboxes, or parked cars. Avoid blocking sidewalks when placing your cart. Position your cart so its lid faces the front of the street. Your carts must have handles to facilitate easy collection by the automatic trash collection truck. Do not place extra trash next to your cart, as it will not be serviced. Remove your cart as soon as possible after your trash has been collected.

Clarkstown Recycling Collections

Recycling is collected on the same day as regular garbage collection. Residents of the Town of Clarkstown should place their recycling cart at the curbside by 6 AM on the scheduled collection day. Be careful when placing items in recycling carts, as the collection crew will not collect carts with non-recyclable materials.

To keep your cart clean and free of maggots, put only clean, empty, and dry items in your recycling cart and use only closed-lid carts. Do not place any plastic bags in the recycling cart, as they cause issues in the recycling process and slow it down. Styrofoam is also prohibited in recycling.

Acceptable recycling materials include plastic bottles and containers with numbers 1 through 5 & 7, aluminum cans, aluminum foil, aluminum baking trays, steel or tin cans, empty aerosol cans, bottles and jars with brown, green, and clear glass, office paper (printer paper, school papers), newspaper (including inserts), magazines, catalogs (both glossy and non-glossy), flattened corrugated cardboard, paperboard/chipboard (e.g., cereal, pasta, soda, or clothing boxes), telephone directories, brown paper (grocery) bags, aseptic containers, and juice and milk cartons.
