New York City Trash Collection Schedule & Time

In New York City, the trash gets picked up depending on the location you live in. 

You have to put out the trash after 6 PM, if you are using bins that have lids, before the pickup day. 

If you are using trash bags, you will have to put them out after 8 PM before the pickup day. 

You can get your trash bags or cans back by 9 PM, if it is picked up before 4 PM and by 9 AM in the morning if picked up after 4 PM.

Report if your trash is not getting picked up on your pickup day/time. You cannot report or your report will be ignored by NYC.GOV if you are putting the items in a wrong way or on a wrong day. Missed collection may also happen if you are not following the rule regarding acceptable or non acceptable items.

NYC Recycling Schedule

To make New York City clean, the government has not set any limit to the amount of clear bags you can set out for recycling.

Paper, cardboard, glass, metal, rigid plastic, and beverage cartons are the accepted materials for recycling. 

The recycling materials should also be placed on the curbside. Trash bins with closed lids are to be placed between 6 PM and midnight before the scheduled day. 

If the recyclables are in trash bags, then they should be placed out between 8 PM and Midnight before the scheduled day. 

Whatever accepted material you put outside, it is recommended to label them as trash.

NYC Bulk Trash Pickup Schedule

Bulk trash pickup follows a schedule and cannot be appointed now. You are only allowed to set 6 items per pickup. Set out only those items which can not be fitted in the normal trash. Bulk trash option is used for furniture mostly. 

Be careful to not set out any glass or mirror related thing and mattresses-like items should be packed or sealed with a plastic bag, otherwise you will be fined up to $300.

If you have any electronics, look for the proper guide to recycle them at first because every model of different companies have different things inside which can be harmful.

Vehicles, Car Batteries, Gasoline, Motor oil and tires are strictly forbidden to be included in the bulk waste.
