If you are unsure about your trash collection schedule based on your address, contact the Office of Waste Collection at 352-338-3233. You can also visit GFL Environmental’s website to address your queries.

Place all your solid waste materials in a bag and put these bags into a city-issued trash cart. Then, place the trash cart at the curbside by 6 AM on your scheduled collection day according to your location. Do not delay placing your trash cart at the curbside, as late placement will result in missed collection. Additionally, residents are required to remove trash carts from the curbside by 9 AM on the same collection day.

Residents should follow specific instructions when placing their trash carts at the curbside. Ensure that carts are placed in an obstacle-free area so that trash collection trucks can access them easily. Place the cart so that its lid opens toward the street. Avoid blocking sidewalks, and only use closed-lid carts; otherwise, your trash cart will not be collected.

Alachua Recycling Schedule

Residents of Alachua County are provided with blue-colored recycling bins for recyclable trash. According to county regulations, acceptable recycling materials include plastic bottles and jars (including yogurt cups and margarine tubs), metal cans (including aerosol cans, which must be emptied first), and glass bottles and jars. Metal, plastic, and glass recycling materials must be placed in separate recycling bins.

Place all recycling materials loosely in the recycling cart and do not include any plastic bags, as they disrupt the recycling process and slow it down. If recycling trash includes plastic or glass bottles, residents must remove the lids before placing them in the recycling bin. Ensure that food boxes are empty and clean before placing them in the bin.

Alachua Bulk Pickup for Special Large Items

Alachua County, along with the City of Gainesville, provides free bulk pickup services to residents. Bulk trash includes large items that cannot fit in regular trash carts, such as couches, tables, chairs, desks, and mattresses. Home appliances like stoves, washers, and dryers are also classified as bulk trash. If you have such items to dispose of, contact the County Collection Office at 352-338-3233 or the City of Gainesville at 352-334-2330.

These offices will schedule bulk collections according to your location within the county. Residents must prepare their bulk trash properly to ensure collection. For example, separate home appliances from other bulk trash. Do not wrap bulk trash in yellow bags; instead, place all bulk trash loosely on the street. Avoid blocking sidewalks when placing bulk trash at the curbside.

Alachua Curbside Yard Waste Collection Schedule

Yard trash includes materials such as leaves, grass, small twigs, branches, and other lawn debris. To dispose of yard waste, check your schedule and place yard trash at the curbside by 7 AM on your collection day.

Residents must follow specific guidelines for yard waste preparation. Place all tree leaves in compostable paper kraft bags to ensure collection. If the trash includes sticks, twigs, or branches, cut them into lengths of 4 feet and diameters of 3 inches, then tie them into bundles. Label any additional carts used for yard trash with “Yard Trash” so the collection crew can identify them easily during pickup.
