Garbage Cart Collection Guidelines

According to the rules of Gainesville Garbage Collection Schedule, place your cart at the curbside by 7 AM on your scheduled collection day. Similarly, remove your cart by 9 PM on the same day after your trash is collected. Place your cart in obstacle-free areas and leave at least 2 feet of space around your trash cart to allow the collection truck to easily pick up your cart without any difficulty.

Do not block sidewalks when placing your cart at the curbside. Place your cart within four (4) feet from the curb or the traveled edge of the road in front of your property. If your cart is not placed accordingly, it will not be serviced. Place only a closed-lid cart at the curbside to reduce litter and spillage. Do not overfill your garbage cart; otherwise, you will be charged a fine.

Recycling Collection Guidelines

Recycling services will be provided on the same day as your normal garbage collection. Place only empty, clean, and dry items into the recycling cart and ensure a closed-lid cart is at the curbside by 7 AM on your designated day. Additionally, once your trash is collected, remove your cart as soon as possible.

Acceptable recycling materials include aluminum cans and bottles, steel cans and empty aerosol cans, plastic jugs, plastic bottles, plastic jars, plastic tubs, glass bottles, glass jars and containers, mixed paper, and flattened cardboard. Do not add plastic bags or contaminants into recycling carts.

Bulk Items Collection

There is no need for an appointment to schedule your bulk trash pickup because Gainesville facilitates its residents with weekly curbside bulk collections. Bulk trash collection services will be provided once a week on your normal garbage collection day. The Waste Management Department provides these services free of cost.

Acceptable bulk trash includes furniture, broken beds, broken chairs, mattresses, home appliances, and other household items. Pile your bulk trash at the curbside by 7 AM on your garbage collection day. Do not add any contaminants or construction materials into the bulk pile; otherwise, it will not be serviced.

Yard Waste Collection

Yard collection services will be provided once a week on the same day as your garbage collection. Yard waste includes leaves, branches, clippings, shrubs, and other yard material. Cut all branches into lengths of 6 feet and tie them into a bundle to place them at the curbside. Put all leaves and small yard trash items into plastic bags and place them at the curb to ensure your yard collection.

Holidays Collection Schedule
