Provo Garbage Collection

According to the rules of the Sanitation Division, place your garbage cart at curbside by 6 PM the night before your scheduled trash collection day. Place your cart in a way that its lid will open towards the street so that trash trucks can collect it easily. Moreover, leave almost 4 feet of space around your garbage cart.

Place only a closed-lid cart at curbside and roll your cart back as soon as possible once your trash is collected. In order to reduce litter, put all trash into plastic bags and then put the bags into the garbage cart. Similarly, do not add any sticky items into the garbage cart because they can get stuck in the cart and attract insects that could cause diseases.

Provo Recycling Collection

Recycling carts will be serviced on the same day as your regular garbage collection. To ensure your recycling pickup, place recycling carts at curbside by 6 AM on your designated day. Place recycling and garbage in separate carts. Put only empty, clean, and dry items into recycling carts, and do not add any contaminants or plastic bags into recycling carts because these materials disrupt the recycling process.

Acceptable recycling materials include cardboard, mixed paper, food boxes, aluminum cans, steel cans, drinking bottles, plastic and glass bottles, milk jugs with number 7, plastic containers with number 7, paper bags, and paper packaging. Do not add any irrelevant material into the cart; otherwise, your recycling cart will not be serviced.

Household Hazardous Material

As a resident of Provo, you are not allowed to put household hazardous trash into the garbage cart. You have to store them separately until their collection. Household hazardous materials include old computers, burned-out fluorescent light bulbs, or old lawn fertilizers and pesticides. If you have this type of trash and wish to get rid of it, bring all this material to the South Utah Valley Solid Waste District’s transfer station.

Spring and Fall Cleanup

During the spring and fall leaf season, the Sanitation Division will provide dumpsters for six weeks. The Sanitation Division will pick up all leaves and yard trash in these dumpsters free of cost. If you want to use these dumpsters to dispose of your spring and fall cleanup trash, contact the Sanitation Division, and they will inform you about the dumpster located nearby.
