Oyster Bay Garbage Collection Rules & Time
Place your garbage cart at curbside by 5 PM the evening before your scheduled collection day in Oyster Bay. Do not place your cart in the roadway; instead, place it in front of your property at the edge of the street. Your trash will be collected twice a week. Wrap all trash in a bag and then place it in a cart to reduce spillage.
You can use unlimited containers to place your trash at curbside, but the size of the container must be 32 gallons, and its weight must not exceed 50 lbs each. Moreover, choose containers that have handles or hand grips so that they can be collected easily. Place only closed-lidded carts at curbside to reduce litter.
Oyster Bay Recycling Collection Rules & Time
The recycling program of Oyster Bay is known as Separate Oyster Bay’s Recyclable Today (S.O.R.T), which has been providing recycling services since 1987 to the Town of Oyster Bay. Your recyclable material will be picked up with your normal garbage collection, so place it at curbside with residential garbage to dispose of your recycling trash.
Acceptable recycling materials include aluminum, steel, and tin cans, pans, aluminum foil, paper, cardboard, plastic bottles, plastic containers, and all hard plastics with numbers 1-7, glass bottles, glass containers, and jars.
Do not add any type of styrofoam, waxed paper, or plastic bags into the recycling cart because these materials are not recyclable. Place your cart at curbside on time and remove it by 8 PM on your scheduled collection day.
Bulk Items Collection
If you have large trash items that cannot fit into a residential garbage cart, you can request the collection of these types of trash. To request special pickup of your bulk trash, contact customer service at (516) 677-5848.
You will be required to give some personal information to them, such as your name, home address, and street number. In return, they will confirm your bulk collection day. Once your bulk collection is confirmed, place all materials at the curbside on the designated days.
Bulk material includes furniture, home appliances, and broken-down bundles such as televisions and refrigerators. Remove the door of the refrigerator before placing it at the curb. Only 3 bulk items will be collected in one trip. So don’t place too much bulk trash at curbside; otherwise, your pile will not be collected.
Yard Waste Collection
To schedule your yard waste collection, you have to contact (516) 677-5848. Yard waste includes grass clippings, weeds, leaves, tree trimmings, branches, shrub clippings, small roots, and other lawn trash. These materials are taken to the compost facility.
Do not put any household trash or animal waste into the yard trash cart. Cut all branches into lengths of 3 feet, tie them into bundles, and place them at the curbside. The weight of the bundle should not exceed 50 pounds. Similarly, put all leaves and clippings into plastic bags and place them at the curbside for collection.
If your yard waste consists of grass, remove all soil from its branches and cut all grass into pieces so that it fits into plastic bags easily. In this way, it will get collected easily by the trash collection truck as well.
