Virginia Beach is a beautiful coastal city in Virginia near the Atlantic Ocean, a significant tourist place with the popular First Landing State Park attracting a significant number of tourists from England. It is a very clean area, but as a citizen, you have to make sure that you take part in keeping it clean.

Virginia Beach Trash Schedule

There are some residential trash rules and regulations that you must follow in order to sustain the natural beauty of Virginia Beach.

Virginia Beach Trash Collection Schedule/Timings

Make sure to place black garbage carts outside between 5 PM the day before collection and 7 AM on the scheduled collection day, according to your location.

Make sure there is a clear area of 3 feet between containers, bulky items, mailboxes, and many other yard waste products.

All the carts should be placed with closed lids and avoid overfilling of garbage in carts as these carts will not be accepted for collection.

In order to reduce litter, put trash in bags and then put these bags in trash carts.

Ensure that all trash must be in the cart because trash outside the cart will not be collected, except for bulky trash.

You should remove all carts from outside on the evening of your trash scheduled day. Check your trash pick-up day according to your location from the following link:

You can also call for this request on this number: (757) 385-4650 if you do not have a laptop or computer.

Virginia Beach Recycling Drop-Off Timings

The Landfill Resources and Recovery Center located at Jake Sears Road provides recycling services and it opens from 7 AM to 4:30 PM, Tuesday to Saturday.

You can also take your recyclable materials to the West Neck Recycling Center, which is open Monday through Saturday from 7:00 AM to 4:30 PM.

Due to limited space in the West Neck Recycling Center and the prohibition on trailers, if you have a trailer for transporting your recyclable trash, it’s preferable to go to the Landfill Resources and Recovery Center.

Virginia Beach Bulky Item Pickup Request

As a resident of Virginia Beach, if you have a lot of bulky trash, you can easily request a collection of bulk trash from your location.

Click on the following link to make a request for bulk trash pick-up;

Keep in mind that requests should be made 3 days before your weekly scheduled pickup day.

If you have a single bulk item, wait to collect more bulky trash and then request for pick-up instead of requesting multiple pickups for a single item.

Holiday Collection Schedule

Residents of Virginia Beach may experience different collection, landfill, and West Neck Recycling schedules for city holidays.

Waste management resources in Virginia Beach will remain closed on all holidays, regardless of the normal trash collection schedule for the landfill and West Neck Recycling Center.

Yard Debris Pickup & Rental Containers

Cooperate with public waste management groups during their operation of yard debris pickup. Ensure their safety as they collect yard debris by their hands. You must follow some rules and regulations:

On your trash collection schedule, make sure to put your trash outside by 7 AM on the scheduled day.

Put yard debris away from the waterline and keep a distance of 3 feet from yard debris to trash collection carts and make sure that debris is not blocking the sidewalk.

Ensure that leaves and clippings are placed in transparent bags, with a maximum of 25 bags. Do not exceed this limit. Packed lawn debris can also be placed in trash carts.

Weekly trash collectors will pick up one limb per week, which should be no longer than 4 feet, 4 feet wide, and 4 feet tall.

Keep in mind that if you hire a caretaker for your yard, they will be responsible for disposing of the trash themselves.

You can rent roll-off containers in case of having large amounts of waste such as tree branches, shrubs, leaves, etc.

You will be charged $40 if you rent a roll-off container on weekdays and $75 if you rent a container on the weekend. The size of the container will be 13-by-7-by-5 feet.
