AB Week Recycling Street List

Garbage Collections

Your trash carts will be serviced once a week. According to the rules and regulations of Methuen, place your cart at the curbside by 7 AM on your scheduled collection day. Put all garbage into the blue trash carts. Your trash collection will not be delayed except for annual holidays observed by the city. To ensure collection, place your cart at the curbside on time. If you’re late, your cart may not be collected.

When placing your cart at the curbside, follow certain rules. For instance, position the cart so its lid faces the street. Leave a clearance of 5 feet on all sides of the cart so that it can be easily collected by the automatic trash truck. Do not overfill the cart; only place a closed-lid cart at the curbside. If trash is spilling out of the cart, it will not be collected.

Recycling Collections

Recycling carts will be serviced once every two weeks. Put all recyclable materials into green recycling carts and place them at the curbside by 7 AM on your collection day, in accordance with Methuen’s sanitation rules. Use only Methuen-issued carts for recycling. Do not add plastic bags into the recycling cart, as they cause issues in the recycling process and slow down operations.

Only empty, clean, and dry items should be placed in the recycling cart to reduce spillage and litter. Acceptable recycling materials include mixed paper, flattened cardboard, metal boxes, aluminum cans, tin cans, plastic bottles, plastic containers, and glass bottles and jars. Do not put any non-recyclable materials into the cart, or your recycling will not be serviced.

Bulk Trash Collections

Residents can schedule curbside bulk pickups through Methuen DPW. If you have bulk trash, such as broken furniture, mattresses, or home appliances, and want to dispose of it, call 978-983-8545. Residents are allowed to place up to four bulk items at the curb on their recycling day for proper disposal.

Place bulk trash at the edge of the street in front of your property, ensuring not to block sidewalks. Do not place bulk items on personal property, as the collection crew will not enter personal property to pick up trash. Residents can schedule two bulk pickups per month.

Household Hazardous Waste

Household hazardous waste includes materials that could be harmful if not handled properly, such as paint, chemicals, batteries, and cleaners. Residents can bring these types of trash to the drop-off station located at Methuen Transfer Station, 50 Huntington Ave, Methuen, MA 01844.

Yard Waste Collections

Yard trash carts will be serviced on your recycling day. Place your yard trash cart at the curbside by 7 AM on your scheduled collection day. There are specific rules for yard waste collection. For example, if your yard trash contains branches, cut them into lengths of 4 feet and tie them into bundles. Place these bundles at the curbside to ensure collection.

To reduce litter, place all leaves and grass clippings into biodegradable bags before setting them at the curb. Remove all soil from the grass roots before placing it at the curbside. Do not mix yard trash with recycling materials or construction debris, as this will prevent collection.

Holidays Collection Schedule

Trash collection runs smoothly throughout the year, but certain holidays may affect your collection day. If these holidays fall on your regular collection day, your trash collection will be delayed by one day. For example, if the holiday falls on Monday, Monday’s collection will be done on Tuesday, and Tuesday’s collection will be delayed by one day, and so on. The delay will continue throughout the week.
