Trash Services Schedule

Trash Collection Guidelines

Residents of the City of Fort Lauderdale are given trash collection services twice per week. It is required for residents to place their trash cart at the curbside by 7 AM on the scheduled collection day. Your trash cart will be collected from 7 AM to 7 PM on your scheduled collection day. Do not be late in placing your cart at the curb; otherwise, it will not be collected. Moreover, place all regular trash in the black 65-gallon trash cart issued by the city government.

There are certain rules related to trash cart placement that residents must follow. For instance, place your trash cart so that its lid opens toward the front of the street. Similarly, place your trash cart in a visible and obstacle-free location so that automatic trash collection trucks can easily collect it. Moreover, leave a clearance of 3 feet on both sides of your cart so that the hydraulic arms of trash collection trucks can easily operate.

When residents put trash loosely into their carts, it can get stuck to the walls of the carts, causing problems during collection. To prevent this, residents are advised to put all garbage into plastic bags before placing it in the trash carts. Ensure that the lid of the trash cart is closed when placing it at the curb. Finally, once your trash is collected, remove your cart from the curb as soon as possible.

Fort Lauderdale Recycling Collection

The City of Fort Lauderdale provides single-stream recycling services to its residents. When you subscribe to trash services, the city will provide you with a 65-gallon blue recycling cart. Residents are required to put all recyclable material in the city-issued recycling cart. Place your cart at the curbside by 7 AM on your scheduled collection day. Place all materials loosely in your cart, and do not put any plastic bags in the recycling cart. Similarly, only place clean, empty, and dry items in your recycling cart to reduce litter and spillage.

Acceptable recycling materials include paper and cardboard, such as pasteboard (e.g., cereal boxes), brown paper bags, pizza boxes, corrugated cardboard, newspaper, magazines, office paper; plastic containers #1-7, such as water bottles, milk jugs, berry containers; aluminum, steel, and tin cans, such as beer and soda cans, soup cans; and glass containers. Only put these mentioned materials in your recycling cart because if the trash collection crew finds any non-recyclable material in your cart, they will not collect it.

Bulk Pickup Program

Bulk materials are oversized items that can cause problems when they are no longer being used. Disposing of bulk trash can be challenging because of its size, which makes it unsuitable for regular trash cart services. To address this, the City of Fort Lauderdale provides curbside bulk collection services through a special bulk pickup program.

Bulk trash includes broken furniture, such as beds, sofas, chairs, tables, mattresses, and home appliances. If you have this type of trash and want to dispose of it, contact the city’s public waste department at (954) 828-8000 to schedule a bulk collection. They will collect up to 10 cubic yards of bulk trash during a single collection.

Yard Waste Collections

Yard trash includes materials such as tree branches, leaves, stems, grass clippings, and other lawn waste. These materials are prohibited from regular trash carts, so residents are required to store this type of trash separately. If you have yard waste and want to dispose of it, contact the Public Works Department of the City of Fort Lauderdale at (954) 828-8000 to schedule your yard collection.

Holiday Trash Schedule

The City of Fort Lauderdale observes certain holidays that affect trash collection services in various ways.
