Clearwater is a city and the county seat of Pinellas County, Florida, United States, located west of Tampa and north of St. Petersburg. The Solid Waste/Recycling Department of Clearwater is responsible for trash collection services in the city. They provide weekly trash collection services to single-family residents and also schedule pickups for commercial purposes as needed. All their efforts are dedicated to ensuring cleanliness in the city and providing a healthy environment for residents. However, they need residents’ cooperation to perform their duties effectively. Residents’ cooperation is essential for setting trash carts at the curbside on time and keeping all types of trash separate in designated containers.

Garbage Collection Guidelines
The city of Clearwater provides trash collection services once a week according to a set schedule. Residents are required to set their cart at the curbside by 7 PM the night before the scheduled day. Do not be later than 7 AM, or your trash cart will not be serviced. Place your cart so that its lid faces the street, and ensure it has handles for easy collection. Place only closed-lid carts at the curbside. If trash is spilling out, it will not be serviced.
Garbage attracts maggots and insects. To reduce contact, residents are advised to pack all trash into plastic bags before putting it into the garbage cart. Trash is collected by automatic trucks, so leave enough room around the cart for the truck’s hydraulic arms. Avoid placing carts on sidewalks, and only place them in clear, visible, and obstacle-free areas.
If your trash contains raw garbage, paper plates, paper towels, lightweight materials, Styrofoam, or shredded paper, drain all debris, place them in plastic bags, and then put them in the trash cart. Once collected, remove your cart by 7 AM the following day.
Clearwater Recycling Schedule
Recycling services are provided on the same day as regular garbage collection. Residents should place all recycling materials at the curbside by 6 AM on the designated day. Place all recycling materials loosely in a recycling cart, and do not put any plastic bags in it, as they are not recyclable and interfere with the process. Place only empty, closed, and dry items in the recycling cart to reduce litter and spillage.
According to Clearwater city laws, acceptable recycling materials include plastic bottles and containers labeled with numbers 1 to 7, metal cans (such as tin, steel, aluminum, and empty aerosol cans), glass bottles and jars (without lids), flattened cardboard, and paper. Do not place any non-recyclable material in the recycling cart; otherwise, your cart will not be serviced. Remove your cart as soon as possible once it is emptied.
Report Problem (Cart is Damaged or Missing)
Residents may encounter issues like damaged carts, stolen carts, or missed collections. In these cases, the city of Clearwater has a solution in place. Residents can report any problems by calling (727) 562-4920 or by filling out an online form. Complete the form to report any issues, and the city will assist you promptly.
Yard and Bulk Item Collections
The city of Clearwater provides weekly curbside yard and bulk collection services. Yard waste includes tree branches, leaves, brush, and other types of natural waste. Bulk collection includes large household items, such as washers, dryers, sofas, furniture, and other large, bulky items. Place all these items at the curbside by 7 AM on the designated day and location.
Residents should place bulk and yard trash in front of their property at the edge of the street. Keep trash material away from obstacles like overhead wires, trees, poles, mailboxes, and vehicles. Only 40 cubic yards of trash are allowed per collection; exceeding this amount will incur extra charges.
For yard trash containing tree branches and limbs, cut them into lengths of 6 feet and bundle them to place at the curbside. If yard trash contains leaves and grass clippings, place them in plastic bags for curbside placement.
For bulk trash, pile it in front of your property, not inside, as collection crews are not allowed to enter private property. If your bulk trash contains mattresses, wrap them in plastic. Follow all rules, or your trash will not be serviced.

The city of Clearwater observes certain holidays, which can affect the normal trash collection schedule. When these holidays occur, trash collection services are provided one day earlier.
