Parkland is a suburban city located 42 miles northwest of Miami, in northern Broward County, Florida, with the zip code 33067. The Waste Management department is responsible for trash collection services in Parkland. They have introduced a new and effective method to collect trash using an automatic lifting truck equipped with arms to pick up trash carts easily. Residents are provided with 65- and 96-gallon trash carts to store their waste for collection.

Parkland offers garbage, recycling, bulk, and yard waste collection services, which vary depending on the location. Waste Management requires cooperation from residents to perform their duties smoothly and effectively. It is essential for residents to follow trash rules and participate in sanitation activities under the Parkland Trash Schedule.

Garbage Collections

According to the City of Parkland code and ordinances, Waste Management is responsible for trash collection services. Place all trash in city-issued garbage carts and set them at the curbside by 6 AM on your designated collection day. Garbage carts are serviced twice a week. There is no limit on the amount of trash residents can place at the curbside. If you have excess trash, you can purchase an additional trash cart for $100 (one-time fee) to accommodate the extra waste.

Residents must follow certain rules when placing carts at the curbside:

  • Position the cart so the lid faces the street to facilitate collection.
  • Leave a clearance of 3 feet on both sides of the cart.
  • Avoid placing the cart on sidewalks to prevent obstruction for pedestrians and those using wheelchairs.

Keep the lid closed when placing the cart at the curbside to prevent maggots and litter. Only place appropriate materials in the trash cart—hazardous materials and construction debris are prohibited. It is the residents’ responsibility to collect their cart as soon as possible after it has been emptied.

Parkland Recycling

The City of Parkland requires its citizens to use a city-issued 96-gallon recycling cart for recyclables. Recycling carts are serviced on the same day as regular garbage collection. Place your recycling cart at the curbside by 6 AM on your designated collection day, along with your garbage cart. Ensure that only clean, empty, and dry items are placed in the recycling cart to prevent spillage.

Place the recycling cart 3 feet away from other trash carts to ensure easy collection. Acceptable recycling materials include:

  • Newspapers and inserts
  • Plastic containers numbered 1–7
  • Magazines, catalogs, and phone books
  • Juice boxes, flattened cardboard boxes
  • Glass bottles and jars
  • Steel, tin, and aluminum cans
  • Office paper and junk mail
  • Cereal and tissue boxes

Do not place prohibited materials in your recycling cart, as it will not be serviced.

Bulk Trash Pickup Schedule & Instructions

Bulk trash includes items too large to fit into your regular garbage cart. The City of Parkland has signed a contract with Waste Management to collect bulk trash once a week. Each bulk collection can accommodate up to 15 cubic yards of bulk trash. If you have oversized bulk trash, click the link below to view the bulk collection schedule.

Acceptable bulk trash items include domestic appliances such as refrigerators, stoves, washers, dryers, furniture, and large branches. If disposing of a refrigerator, remove all doors before placing it at the curbside. Certain items, such as tree stems, construction debris, and hazardous materials, are prohibited as bulk trash.

Place acceptable bulk trash in front of your property one day before your scheduled collection day. Ensure the bulk trash is in an obstacle-free area, away from trees, poles, mailboxes, and parked cars to facilitate easy collection. Bulk services may be suspended due to weather conditions, so check notifications before placing bulk trash at the curbside.

Parkland Yard Waste Pickup Instructions

Yard trash is collected on the same day as regular garbage collection. Acceptable yard waste includes tree branches, grass clippings, palm fronds, and Christmas trees. If your yard trash consists of tree branches, cut them into lengths of 2 feet, tie them into bundles, and place them at the curbside.

Your yard trash container must be labeled “yard trash” so the collection crew can identify it easily. Yard trash is not accepted at the transfer station, so do not bring yard materials there. Avoid adding dirt, sod, or construction debris to your yard waste pile, as these materials will not be collected.

Household Hazardous Disposal

Household hazardous materials are dangerous materials that could cause harm if not properly stored, such as medications, bleach, and cleansers. If you need to dispose of these materials, bring them to the Parkland drop-off station at Broward County. The Broward County Residential Drop-off Centers accept household hazardous waste and electronics only on Saturdays from 9 AM to 3 PM.
