Garbage Collections

Regular garbage is collected once a week. Place your cart at the curbside by 7 AM on your collection day. Garbage will be collected between 7 AM and 5 PM, so ensure you place your cart on time; late carts will not be collected. Follow these guidelines when placing your cart at the curbside:

  • Do not block sidewalks.
  • Place the cart at the edge of the street in front of your property.
  • Leave a clearance of 3 feet on both sides of the cart to allow for easy collection by the automatic trash truck.
  • Avoid placing the cart near obstacles like poles, mailboxes, or parked cars.
  • Ensure the cart’s lid opens toward the street, and it has handles for easy pickup.

After collection, remove your cart as soon as possible in the evening according to the Royal Oak Trash Schedule.

Recycling Collections

Your recycling cart will be collected on the same day as your regular garbage collection. Place recyclable materials at the curbside by 7 AM on your scheduled collection day. Make sure to place only recyclable materials in the cart and avoid including irrelevant items.

  • Place all recyclable materials loosely in the cart.
  • Do not use plastic bags, as they are not recyclable and cause disruptions in the recycling process. Instead, use recyclable bags available at local grocery stores.
  • Place only clean, empty, and dry items in the recycling cart.

Royal Oak Bulk Collections

Acceptable bulk materials include furniture, mattresses, tree limbs, branches, grass, leaves, televisions, cactus, and century plants. Do not include dirt, rocks, concrete, or cement, as these materials are not accepted.

Bulk and brush trash are collected once a week on your regular trash collection day. Keep a 3-foot distance between brush (yard waste, branches, clippings) and bulk (furniture, mattresses, and other large items). For more information, contact GFL Environmental at (248) 246-3300 for bulk and (586) 795-5581 for yard collection information.

If you have an alley, place bulk and brush items on your side of the alley along your property line. If you don’t have an alley, place bulk trash parallel to the street in front of your property. The bulk pile size should not exceed 10 feet long, 6 feet wide, and 4 feet tall.
