Place your cart at the curbside by 7 AM on your scheduled collection day in South Hadley. Be punctual when placing your cart outside because if it is not placed by 7 AM and your cart is missed during collection, it will not be serviced. First, place your trash into green plastic bags and then put these bags into recycling carts to reduce litter. These bags must be approved by the city sanitation department. The weight limit for each barrel is 40 pounds.

Place your cart so that its lid faces the front of the street. Clear the place around your cart before placing it at the curb. Leave a distance of 3 feet from other carts and 6 feet from static obstacles, such as poles, mailboxes, or parked cars, when placing your cart at the curbside. Remove your cart as soon as possible once it has been collected.

Recycling facilities will be provided on the same day as your garbage collection. To ensure your garbage pickup, place your cart at the curbside by 7 AM on the designated day. It must be sorted into two streams. Additionally, place empty, clean, and dry material into recycling carts to prevent spillage and reduce litter.

The city will provide green recycling carts that are used to hold recyclable material. Use that cart to put all recyclable material at the curbside. Green recycling carts have small holes on the bottom that allow liquid material to pass through.

If you do not have recycling bins, these are available at the Department of Public Works in South Hadley. If residents prefer to use their own barrels to place recyclable material at the curbside, it is necessary to label your cart as a recycling cart. Do not put any plastic bags into recycling carts because it causes problems in the recycling process.
