Garbage Collections

Garbage collection service is provided once a week. Place all trash in a green Brockton bag and then put these bags into the garbage cart provided by Republic Services. All bags must fit inside the cart; if your bags exceed the top of the barrel, it will not be serviced. You can purchase green Brockton bags from local retailers, supermarkets, the recycling depot, or online stores.

There are certain rules to follow when placing your cart at the curbside. For example, leave a distance of 3 feet from all other carts and obstacles. Place your cart at the edge of the street in front of your property, as carts placed on personal property will not be collected. Position the cart so that the lid faces the street. After collection, roll your container back as soon as possible.

Recycling Collections

Recycling service is provided once every two weeks. Place your cart at the curbside by 7 AM, or at 5 PM the night before, to ensure recycling pickup on your designated collection day. If your recycling trash includes cardboard, cut it into 2×2 pieces before placing it at the curb. Alternatively, you can bring recyclable products to the city recycling depot, but you will need proof of residency to do so.

Brockton’s acceptable recycling materials include metal and aluminum cans, food boxes, flattened cardboard, food cartons, glass bottles and jars, paper, plastic bottles, and plastic containers with numbers 1 to 7. Do not place any plastic bags into the recycling cart, as they cause issues at recycling plants and slow down the recycling process.

Missed Trash Collection

Sometimes your trash may be missed during collection due to various reasons, such as not following the rules for placing your cart at the curbside, or an oversight by the trash collection crew. If this happens, simply call Republic Services at 508-536-6998 to report the missed collection. They will reschedule your trash pickup for the next business day.

Bulk Items Collections

Proper disposal of bulk trash is essential for keeping the environment clean. Bulk trash includes mattresses, box springs (all sizes), TVs, computer monitors, couches, beds, chairs, tables, and loveseats longer than 59 inches. The city of Brockton offers bulk curbside pickup services. If you have this type of trash and want to dispose of it, call Republic Services at 508-536-6998 or 1-800-425-0095 to schedule your bulk trash pickup.

Once Republic Services confirms your bulk collection, place your bulk trash at the curbside by 7 AM on the designated day. Bulk collection services charge a fee depending on the size and weight of the objects. For example, the disposal fee for items like mattresses, couches, and TVs is $20. The fee may increase if your trash requires special handling. Bulk trash will be collected on the same day as your regular trash collection.
