Waste Collection
The Department of Parks, Department of Recreation, Public Works, and Hudson County Improvement Authority are always on the front line to keep the streets of Hoboken clean and citizens healthy.
Solid waste gets picked up during weekdays will be from 9 AM – 4 AM and on Saturday it will be 9 AM – 12 PM.
Make sure to place your trash containers with tightly closed lids on the curbside from 7:30 PM to 9 AM at a designated place according to your trash collection schedule. Also, Make sure that containers are not heavier than 50 lbs when you place them on the curbside.
It is highly recommended to customers, for effective trash management according to the limit of weight provided by Cali Carting, to use trash container sizes between 10 to 32 gallons.

Hoboken Recycling Schedule
All recycling material should be placed outside after 7:30 PM on appreciation day in limited business areas.
All commingled recyclable materials, including plastic, glass, metal, and cartons, will be collected at the start of the week, Monday evening. Make sure that the material you are putting in the recycling cart is clean, dry, and empty.
Remember! Only plastic with numbers 1, 2, and 5 is accepted for recycling by the Hoboken waste management department.
Avoid putting any plastic bags, styrofoam, and any paper into the recycling cart. Paper recycling will be done on Thursday night. Make sure to put papers and cardboard into the cart without putting them into plastic bags. Make sure that cardboard is flattened and securely tied.

Textile Recycling Program
Hoboken offers a textile recycling program, aiming to recycle unwearable, non-donatable clothes, shoes, and other accessories such as ties and gloves.
One piece of cloth takes many years to decompose, and during the process of decomposing, it releases CO2 and methane into the atmosphere, causing severe environmental concerns.
There are a total of 4 textile recycling bins installed across the whole of Hoboken city. You have to put all non-usable clothes there to divert about 90% of all textiles from landfills to recycling.

Zero Waste Initiative
Hoboken wants to deal with trash to achieve the goal of zero waste. They not only want to recycle and decompose their waste but aim to see something valuable that can be reused.
Following goals are included in the zero waste initiative:
- Hoboken is thinking about adopting a suitable waste management strategy to deal with trash.
- Aim to reduce solid waste, also taking steps to avoid wasting food.
- Promote recycling of recyclable materials.
- Hoboken climate action plans push citizens to reduce the emissions of greenhouse gases, such as the textile recycling program.
- The final goal is to reduce the experience related to waste management.
Pet Waste
Make sure to dispose of pet waste properly to maintain cleanliness and hygiene in public areas.
Put your pet waste in a bag provided by a pet waste dispenser and you can throw it into your regular trash cart.
You can also put pet waste in one of the 500 public waste cans that are provided by the waste management authority.
If you fail to dispose of pet waste properly, you will be fined up to $2000. As a citizen of Hoboken, you can adopt a pet waste station near your location.

Food Composting
There are 21 compost drop-off places in Hoboken city, where residents are encouraged to come and drop compostable material.
These drop-off sites are open 24/7. You can come any time to drop your food scraps and compostable material at these sites.
Hoboken sends its organic stuff and food scraps into a landfill in New York City, which costs $20 per ton.
